Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara
Povsod pesek, palme in svetlo modra, topla voda. In veliko vetra. Pa še off shore piha.

We have heard so much about this place, that we were full of expectations. A small village, about 300 km west of Fortaleza. Doesn’t seem far, but considering it lies on big sand dunes, getting there requires 4X4 wheels (or at least in our case, a truck bus). It is a magical place, where time stands still and the streets are paved with sand. Until about 20 years ago, Jeri was a secluded fishing village with no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TVs or newspapers and money was rarely used. There is electricity now, but illumination of the streets is forbidden and when there is a full moon, it is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. When the sun sets around 5,30 pm everyone walks up to the dune to see the sun drop into the ocean, which is uncommon in Brazil (with all of its coastline facing east). Every night you can then watch the Capoeira on the beach. But for the real dream reason to visit Jeri is the wind and the warm water. It took us about a week to get used to the spot and the waves (and the fact the wind blows off-shore), but still every day was a challenge. For easier conditions we visited nearby lagoons Tatajuba, Lagoa Paraiso and Azul, where Katka felt at ease at a flat spot and Luka, Bole and Gorazd went kitesurfing.
We love the place and stayed in Pousada Capim Santo run by Elena, who made us feel like at home. We quickly got used to the great breakfast and the occasional evening barbeque. Also the nightly fighting off mosquitos despite the net is not an issue anymore. After 4 weeks we reluctantly buy a plane ticket to move on. We could definitely stay here for months…..It’s a place that cannot be described with words, so come and experience it J.
